Kurdistan Democratic Party Calls on All Parliamentary Blocs to Attend Kurdistan Parliament Session on Wednesday

Nov 03 2026

ARK News.. The Presidency of the Kurdistan Parliament’s Diwan on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, issued an official invitation to all members of parliament to attend a session scheduled for Wednesday, aimed at completing the agenda of the opening session of the sixth electoral term.

In an official statement, the Parliament’s Diwan said the session would begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and would focus on completing the remaining items of the first session of the autumn legislative term in the first year of the sixth parliamentary term. It called on all lawmakers to attend at the scheduled time.

Meanwhile, Vala Farid, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, said at a press conference earlier on Tuesday that the party was inviting all parliamentary blocs to attend a session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament.

Farid said they were calling on all members of parliament to attend the chamber at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday for a follow-up meeting to complete the procedures of the first session of the sixth parliamentary term.

The KDP bloc leader added: "More than two years after the sixth-term Kurdistan parliamentary elections were held, unfortunately, the Kurdistan Parliament remains inactive and has been unable to carry out its legislative and oversight duties within the Kurdistan Region's system of governance. This is because not all the procedures and requirements of the term's first session, held on December 2, 2024, have been completed in accordance with the laws in force."

The Kurdistan Parliament held its first session on December 12, 2024. However, political disagreements prevented the completion of procedures to elect its leadership and activate its legislative and oversight roles. This came amid stalled negotiations between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan over the formation of a new government and the distribution of key positions.
