The Deir Ez-Zour Health Directorate has reported that the number of food poisoning cases in the eastern Syrian province has risen to 227.

Nasser al-Khalaf, director of the Deir Ez-Zour Health Directorate, said medical teams were continuing to provide first aid and treatment to those affected, whose conditions ranged from mild to moderate.

On Saturday evening, a medical source in Deir Ez-Zour reported that 111 people had been admitted to the National Hospital, while 55 children had been taken to the Ahmed Taha Abdul-Wahid Hospital, which specializes in pediatrics and maternity care. The patients had reportedly suffered food poisoning after eating meals from two restaurants in the city, with the number of cases expected to rise.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection ordered the closure of the two restaurants involved in the incident.
