Italy: Protests Expected in Around 50 Cities Across the Country

Oct 30 2026

ARK News.. Protests against Italy’s right-wing government, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, took place in cities across the country on Friday, October 30, 2026, with demonstrations expected in around 50 cities nationwide.

According to media reports, school and university students are expected to join a number of marches, while the Union of Independent Trade Unions has called for strikes across several sectors, including local and long-distance public transport and healthcare.

Security forces have deployed large numbers of personnel in city streets amid concerns that the protests could turn violent.

The demonstrations are directed against Meloni’s governing coalition, which comprises three far-right and conservative parties and has been in power for four years. Protesters blame the government for rising inflation and declining wages, while students are calling for increased funding for schools and universities.

Rioting broke out in Milan on October 18 following protests that began peacefully and were held against the rising cost of living and several government legislative plans.
