US Asks Several NATO Members to Tone Down Rhetoric Toward Russia
ARK News.. The United States has asked several European countries, including Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, to moderate their rhetoric toward Russia, according to a news report.
According to Reuters, four sources said U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) officials had asked several NATO member states in recent weeks to tone down their statements about the threat posed by Russia, arguing that some remarks by European leaders and officials were undermining the security of the continent.
Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia were among the countries that received messages urging them to exercise restraint in their public statements.
It remains unclear whether other European governments received similar messages, which were reportedly delivered during bilateral meetings.
