United Nations: Nearly 17 million people need aid in Syria
ARK News… The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator said that about 16.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria.
During his participation in a special session of the UN Security Council on Syria, on Tuesday, Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, confirmed that about 16.7 million Syrian citizens are in need of humanitarian aid.
Griffiths explained that the impact of the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey last year was much greater in Syria due to the conflict that has been ongoing for more than 12 years, noting the necessity of rebuilding basic services and shelters.
He also stressed that the situation in Syria has worsened over the past year, and that three quarters of the total population in Syria are in need of humanitarian aid.
He added that the ongoing conflicts in Syria have led to a decline in basic services and water supplies and a deterioration in the economic situation.
