ARK News… The head of the Syrian Network for Human Rights, “Fadl Abdul Ghani,” praised the European Court’s decision regarding granting asylum to those fleeing compulsory service in the regime’s army, for being involved in war crimes, stressing the importance of the decision for Syrians.

The European Union, on Friday, issued a new decision, which supports the right of Syrians fleeing compulsory military service to obtain the right to an asylum instead of what was in force in some countries of granting them temporary residency, which is renewed every year.

The European Court announced that it approved a new decision that gives asylum in place of secondary protection for those fleeing military service in the Assad army, and the court published the decision on its official website, indicating that the Syrian soldiers fleeing the army will be able to submit an application for asylum to Europe via mail within a period of three months.

In this regard, “Fadl Abdul Ghani,” head of the Syrian Network for Human Rights, told the “Sham” network that the decision was issued on November 19, 2020 and that it came after lengthy investigations conducted by the court, pointing out that the decision includes all European countries, related to everyone who comes from Syria or whoever is in those countries in case he provided the required documents

Abdul Ghani stressed the importance of the decision, as it supports the right to asylum for Syrians in Europe, and supports the refugees ’position before the judiciary not to return to the areas controlled by the regime that will recruit them. It also helps Syrians who have been called up for compulsory service in the regime’s army, which proved to the court the army’s involvement in the commission of war crimes, and therefore joining this army is against the law.

In an interview with “Sham Network”, the head of the Syrian Network pointed out that deserters from the regime’s army have the right to seek refuge in European countries and to present the right to asylum, demanding “Abdul-Ghani” Syrians not to join the regime’s army because they will be involved in committing war crimes. He also called on those joining the army to defect and turn to European countries.

Several sources explained that the decision came as the court made sure that the regime’s army had repeatedly and systematically committed war crimes, including recruits who committed crimes that were documented on a large scale, and therefore the person assigned to the service does not have the option to refuse to participate and is entitled to obtain asylum in the European Union countries.
