Putin: We must pay importance to Kurdish rights in Syria
ARK News: Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the signing of the constitution in Syria was "very imminent", adding: "We must attach importance to the rights of the Syrian Kurds."
This came during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterparts Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian Hassan Rouhani after a trilateral summit on Syria in the city of Sochi, Russia.
Putin added that his country is working to resolve the Syrian crisis in close coordination with Turkey and Iran.
He continued "We have identified (with Turkey and Iran during the summit) important areas to work to resolve the crisis."
The Russian president called for the need to "not affect the fight against terrorism with the cease-fire in Syria."
He also pointed out that the "Astana 12" meeting on Syria will be held by the end of March.
For his part, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, that the Kurds are an integral part of Syria, stressing "the need to subject all Syrian territory to the sovereignty of Damascus."
Rouhani stressed that Turkey is right in its security concerns, pointing out that terrorism poses a threat to the region and adding that "We must attach importance to the security of Turkey”.
He pointed out that the three countries' common goal is to "combat terrorism and establish peace in Syria," stressing that "the Kurds are an integral part of Syria."
The Iranian president said that "the terrorists should be removed from the province of Idlib," calling for "the need to subject all Syrian territory to the sovereignty of Damascus."
Rouhani stressed that "the United States of America will continue to intervene in Syria even after the withdrawal of its troops."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also noted that Ankara has made great efforts to maintain calm in the Syrian Idlib, despite the attempts of some countries to destabilize the situation in it.
The Turkish president also announced that Turkey, Russia, and Iran have made important progress in finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and he reiterated that his country would not allow the establishment of what he called a "terrorist belt" on its southern border.
