Jordanian Security Forces Arrest Suspects in Karak Church Attack

Oct 26 2026

ARK News.. Jordan’s Public Security Directorate announced the arrest of three suspects accused of carrying out an attack targeting Jordanian civilians inside a church in the village of Hamoud, in Karak Governorate, following a search operation that lasted several hours.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, the directorate said joint security forces, including investigation teams and special raid units, located the three suspects early Monday. The suspects had barricaded themselves inside an abandoned house and refused to surrender before opening fire on security personnel.

The security forces brought the situation under control and arrested all three suspects after they were wounded. No injuries were reported among security personnel, the statement said.

Authorities also seized a number of firearms and ammunition from the suspects and the location where they had taken shelter.

Jordanian authorities had previously said that gunmen stormed a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud, in Karak Governorate, and opened fire during a funeral ceremony on Friday.

The attack left eight people dead and several others wounded. Jordan’s interior minister said on Friday that extremists had carried out the attack, while noting that it was too early to determine whether they had links to known groups inside or outside Jordan. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
