UAE Describes Targeting Maritime Navigation Through Strait of Hormuz as “Acts of Piracy”

The UAE Foreign Ministry described attacks targeting maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz as “acts of piracy” by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), calling for an immediate halt to the attacks and the reopening of the strait.

In a statement published on the X platform, the UAE Foreign Ministry said the Iranian attack targeting a vessel belonging to ADNOC while transiting the Strait of Hormuz constitutes a blatant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which emphasized freedom of navigation and rejected the targeting of commercial vessels or disruption of international maritime routes.

The ministry described targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of pressure or economic blackmail as “acts of piracy by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” warning that this poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.

The UAE also called on Iran to halt these hostile attacks in a manner that ensures its full commitment to ending all hostilities and to fully and unconditionally reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a way that safeguards regional security and the stability of the global economy and trade.
