Belgium Affirms Support for Syria’s New Administration
ARK News.. Belgian Foreign Minister Bernard Quentin has pledged his country’s support for the reconstruction of Syria under its new administration in Damascus.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara, Quentin emphasized Belgium’s commitment to assisting Syria's rebuilding efforts. He revealed that Belgium had dispatched its special representative to the Middle East last week to meet with the new Syrian government.
“Belgium is ready to support Syria’s territorial integrity, protect minority rights, and assist in establishing a governance framework aligned with international law,” Quentin stated.
He also underscored Belgium’s willingness to back the voluntary return of Syrian refugees and reiterated ongoing support for Turkey in facilitating Syria's reconstruction.
Quentin addressed the security concerns posed by foreign fighters in camps in northeastern Syria, describing them as a "national security issue." He stressed the need for a resolution, stating, "These camps cannot remain indefinitely. Ultimately, the Syrian government must find a solution to this problem."
Belgium’s support signals broader international engagement with Syria’s transitional phase, as nations explore ways to contribute to the country’s recovery and stability.
