ARK News…. Cypriot President, Nikos Christodoulides, revealed the start of work to reach an agreement with Lebanon, with the aim of preventing the flow of Syrian refugees to the European Union, starting from its coast, stressing that his country seeks to help Lebanon deal with the refugees, so that more of them do not come to Cyprus.

According to the German RND Group, the Cypriot President said that he intends to visit Lebanon early next month, along with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to announce a financial package from the European Union.

He pointed out that the package includes only financial aid and support for Lebanese institutions, noting that it is considered a “stimulator of stability” in the country. Christodoulides described the current situation in Cyprus as “critical,” noting that his country received four thousand immigrants in the first quarter of 2024 compared to Only 78 refugees in the same period in 2023.

A week ago, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced that his country would no longer consider asylum requests from people coming from Syria due to a sharp increase in their numbers this month.
