\Syria Response Coordinators: Cross-border aid entry continues cessation for the eighth day
ARK News… The Syria Response Coordination Team on January 25, 2024, said in a statement that “despite the presence of permissions, the border crossings (Bab al-Hawa, Bab al-Salama, and al-Rai) are witnessing, for the eighth day in a row, the continued cessation of the entry of aid into northwestern Syria.”
The “Response Coordinators” explained that since the beginning of this year, only 43 trucks (42 Bab al-Hawa, 1 Bab al-Salama) have entered through the border crossings, while after the authorization was approved, only 6 trucks (5 Bab al-Hawa, 1 Bab al-Salamah) have entered through the crossings.
It pointed out that UN delegations have completed more than 17 missions since the beginning of the year, covering 50 locations in northwestern Syria (Idlib Governorate and its countryside, the northern and eastern Aleppo countryside).
It also added: "The plans for the World Food Program (WFP) to work in northwestern Syria for the current year are still not clear yet, which will cause negative impacts on the most vulnerable families within the local community in the region."
The World Food Program called on WFP to "work to accelerate the completion of humanitarian operations in the region, especially with the large reductions announced by the program, which will reach approximately 77% compared to previous years."
It also called on delegations and UN agencies to "increase the frequency of visits to the region to closely and permanently review the humanitarian situation in the region."
On January 12, 2024, the Syria Response Coordinators Team announced that a new agreement had been reached to extend the entry of cross-border aid into northwestern Syria.
The team said in a statement followed by the Welat TV website that a new agreement had been reached between the United Nations and various parties, including the Syrian regime, to extend the entry of humanitarian aid through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey for an additional six months.
Adding that the period begins on January 13, 2024 and ends on July 13, 2024 inclusive, with “the Bab al-Salama and al-Rai crossings remaining for an additional month under the fourth mandate until February 13, 2024.”
