Canada mediates between the Kurdish National Council and the PYD
ARK News: A delegation from the Canadian government and a delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Syria discussed the differences between the Council and the Democratic Union Party and the possibility of the rapprochement between the two parties and resolving these differences.
A meeting was held on Monday, October 1, between representatives of the Kurdish National Council in the coalition represented by Abdulbaset Hamo, Fuad Aliko and Hawas Akeid and between a large delegation from the Canadian government composed of Robin Witlofer - Special Envoy to Syria, Pegatha Taylor-deputy Director (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon) in the Middle East Department in Global Affairs, Canada Laura Holland - director of the (Middle East and Africa), Evaluation Secretariat, Office of the Privy Council, Graham Merz - Analyst (Syria), Evaluation Secretariat, Office of the Privy Council, Antoine - Terrar, Program Director (Syria), Program for Peace Operations and Stability in Global Affairs, Canada, and Andrea Schopenhauer, First Secretary, Embassy of Canada in Ankara.
Abdul Basset Hamo, vice-president of the Syrian opposition coalition, said to ARK News that the Canadian side touched on the issue of the dispute between the council PYD and how to overcome these differences between the two parties and form a unified Kurdish vision.
Hamo said that the Council delegation affirmed the Council's commitment to the political solution in accordance with the international resolutions on the Syrian file, especially resolutions 2118 and 2254, stressing that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis.
About the attitude towards PYD, the delegation assured to the Canadian government delegation that they are open to any serious effort by the state community, especially the friends of the Kurdish people, for dialogue on the controversial issues between the parties, namely the political, military and administrative file and the position of the regime and negotiations with it.
Hamo said that the delegation of the Council stressed that any dialogue with PYD should be based on the previous agreements of Hawler 1, Hawler 2 and Douc which signed between the parties, which was sponsored by President Masoud Barzani, and encouraged the delegation of the Council to be under international auspices, the intention of the National Council is to stop the media campaigns and release all the detainees of the Council and political activists and allow the opening of the offices of the Council and the offices of the Council parties and the abolition of confiscations of some Party offices and the houses of some of the leaders of the Council in order to provide the necessary ground to start a serious and responsible dialogue.
