Agreement between the Peshmerga and Iraqi joint operations

ARK News.. The spokesman for the joint operations, Major General Tahseen Al-Khafaji, confirmed what the Peshmerga Ministry announced in a previous statement regarding its agreement with the federal forces to establish joint centers.

The official Iraqi News Agency quoted Maj. Gen. Al-Khafaji, on Sunday, July 5, 2020, as saying, “Some media outlets are circulating news indicating that some terrorist organizations, including ISIS gangs, have infiltrated from Syria towards Iraqi territory,” noting that “the Operations Command held a meeting with the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Regional Government, the two sides agreed to "bridge all security loopholes that terrorist groups can exploit."

Maj. Gen. Al-Khafaji added that "the meeting was agreed through the establishment of joint centers to secure areas that are devoid of the regional guards and federal forces," noting that "the expected danger from terrorist groups in those areas is not great or disturbing, but in spite of that the joint operations command has the potential to chase those total groups. "

Noting that "the international coalition is conducting air strikes, the last of which was the Spanish air force striking a number of terrorist groups," explaining that "all these measures are aimed at combating terrorism and preventing the infiltration of terrorists from inside Syrian territory."

In the same context, General Jabbar Yawar, Secretary General of the Peshmerga Ministry, in an interview on the Zagros Arabic Screen, on Friday (3 June 2020), the agreement that General Al-Khafaji spoke about later, indicating that coordination will take place between the Peshmerga officers and the rest of the region’s forces with the officers of the Ministry Defense and the rest of the federal government forces in the regions of Diyala, Salahuddin, Kirkuk, Makhmour and Mosul.

He also stressed that "the initial agreement was made to establish four joint centers in Kirkuk, Diyala, Makhmour and Mosul," noting that "we agreed on the owners of these centers and we are still discussing the development of mechanisms for their work, and how to form forces or defensive lines and joint operations."

This agreement was made after the meeting of two delegations from the Peshmerga Ministry and the Federal Ministry of Defense in Baghdad, and an agreement to establish four joint coordination centers for security and military work in the disputed areas.
