Explosions rock Syria’s northern city of Raqqa, killing 10
ARK News: The Saturday night blasts occurred in two different locations in the city that were once the de facto capital of the ISIS extremist group, killing at least ten people while over 20 others were injured, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
According to activists, the first explosion was carried out via an improvised explosive device on Basel Street, the central part of Raqqa, minutes later, when people gathered to help the injured, a car bomb went off, the London-based monitoring group said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human rights said that at least five civilians and five members of the Syrian Democratic Forces were among the killed.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that the first blast was a roadside bomb in the city center. It said the second blast was carried out by a suicide attacker driving a vehicle at a checkpoint of US-backed fighters in the central Naim Square, killing five fighters and five civilians.
Blasts have occurred since US-backed fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces captured Raqqa in October 2017.
Islamic State (IS) later claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.
