Newspaper Reports Strategic Shift in Iran’s Position Toward the United States
ARK News.. An American newspaper has reported a strategic shift in Iran’s position toward the United States, pointing to growing “military confidence” in Tehran and its desire to prolong the ongoing conflict in an effort to frustrate the US administration and exhaust its capabilities ahead of the congressional midterm elections scheduled for next November.
According to The New York Times, citing senior US intelligence sources, Iran’s leadership has become firmly convinced of its ability to confront Washington militarily.
The sources said this shift in the balance of power is placing increasing pressure on the White House, particularly as Tehran possesses technological capabilities that enable it to strike US interests in the Middle East with a high degree of precision.
The sources explained that Tehran is currently pursuing a strategy of “measured escalation,” taking advantage of its assessment of the difficulties Washington faces in conducting intensive airstrikes due to dwindling stocks of weapons and ammunition.
The sources added that Iran seeks to prolong the confrontation in order to keep the United States under constant pressure and attrition, thereby putting itself on an “equal footing” with Washington and undermining US plans to bring the conflict to a swift conclusion.
