Egypt Says Drone Targeted Two Ships at Damietta Port

ARK News.. Egypt's Damietta Port Authority confirmed that the fire that broke out aboard two ships at the port on Wednesday was caused by a drone attack, while stressing that port operations continue to operate at full efficiency.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 30, 2026, the authority said all terminals and berths were operating normally, with maritime and logistics services continuing around the clock without interruption to meet the needs of shipping lines and port users.

It added that cargo handling operations were proceeding regularly across the various sectors of the port, while maintaining smooth traffic and targeted operating rates.

Egypt's Cabinet also announced on Thursday that the fire aboard the two ships was caused by a drone attack, stressing that no group had claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

On Wednesday, Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources announced that a fire had broken out aboard two ships inside Damietta Port, which overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The ministry said the incident caused no injuries or loss of life, without initially disclosing the cause of the fire.
