ARK News… In less than 24 hours, the cities of Idlib and Sarmin witnessed the killing of a girl and the injury of 14 civilians as a result of artillery and missile shelling and the use of incendiary sub-munitions by the Syrian regime.

The Syrian Civil Defense said in a report on Sunday: For the second day in a row, regime forces continue their bombing of the cities of Idlib and Sarmin in its eastern countryside, causing 9 civilian casualties, and targeting vital areas and public and service facilities.

He added that on Sunday evening, five civilians, including two children, were injured as a result of regime forces artillery shelling that targeted the market area near the high school in the city of Sarmin, east of Idlib, and the ancient Grand Mosque in the city.

Four civilians, including a child, were also injured by regime forces’ shelling with explosive missiles and missiles loaded with incendiary submunitions, targeting residential neighborhoods in the city of Idlib, this evening, Sunday, January 7. The bombing targeted a school inside the city used as a shelter center for displaced people.

On Saturday, a child was killed and a woman was injured, as a result of artillery shelling that targeted residential neighborhoods, a service facility, and a garden in the city of Idlib, while 4 civilians were injured and a fire broke out in a civilian car, as a result of regime forces’ missile bombardment that targeted the popular market, civilian homes, and near a secondary school in the city of Sarmin.

According to the Civil Defense, the city of Sarmin witnessed a significant escalation in attacks by regime forces and Russia during the past year, as its teams responded to 28 attacks on the city with artillery shells and missiles.

The Civil Defense confirmed that the Assad regime’s repeated use of internationally banned weapons by bombing civilians with missiles carrying incendiary submunitions is a violation and repeated violation of international law, and the absence of accountability and continued impunity for such crimes is what allows the Assad regime to continue bombing residential neighborhoods and vital facilities.

For his part, Badr Jamous, head of the Syrian Negotiating Committee, said, “The Syrian regime continues its barbaric bombing of civilians in the city of Idlib and its countryside and its use of all types of weapons, because it has secured the international community’s silent punishment.”

Stressing that "the international community's policy of turning a blind eye to the killing committed by the regime against the Syrian people gives the regime a green light to launch an organized war of extermination against civilians."
