ARK News… President Masoud Barzani commemorated in a statement the fiftieth anniversary of the martyrdom of the Kurdish activist Layla Qassim and her companions at the hands of the former Ba'athist regime in Iraq.

President Barzani affirmed that Layla Qassim is a supreme icon of Kurdish women who made history for herself and her people.

The statement reads as follows:

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Layla Qassim is a supreme icon of Kurdish women who made history for herself and her people. She embraced martyrdom with pride, yet she did not bow her head to tyrants and enemies. What Layla Qassim and her companions did is considered a lesson for all and an exemplary model, demonstrating that dedication and loyalty to the homeland, faith, and martyrdom with dignity and honor are far more important and noble than a life of servitude and submission.

On the fiftieth anniversary of the execution and martyrdom of Layla Qassim, Nariman Fouad Mustafa, Hassan Hama Rashid, Azad Salim Miran, and Jawad Hamawandi, we send greetings and peace to their pure souls and to all martyrs in the path of freedom.
