A statement issued by the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate Council - Syria regarding an attack on the team of the Kurdish Rudaw TV channel
ARK News... The team of the Kurdish Rudaw satellite channel, on 2/2-2022, was attacked in Qamishlo while covering the memorial services for the martyrs, for a blatant attack by a military force that was said to be unknown, thus, reporter Vivian Fattah, photographer Isa Khalaf, and driver Abdullah Majdal were attacked, a military force prevented colleague Fattah from carrying out her job, and she was taken to the Qamishlo security center in an inappropriate manner.
Meanwhile, five people, believed to be from the "Syrian Revolutionary Youth" kidnapped a cameraman and driver, outside Qamishlo. They were severely beaten, tortured, insulted, and threatened. A few days ago, the "SDF" forces prevented Rudaw from entering the city of Hasaka and covering events of the displaced in the area as a result of the Al-Sina'a prison incidents.
The PYD's Revolutionary Youth organization attacked Rudaw's office in Qamishlo six times, and the Asayish forces did not arrest the perpetrators of these attacks.
We in the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate Council - Syria condemn and denounce this unjustified restriction on the reality of the media in western Kurdistan with flimsy pretexts, and we demand the Free Media Union of the Autonomous Administration and the Media Department of the Autonomous Administration to do their duty to protect journalists, and not justify those who exert pressure against media professionals. In Western Kurdistan, we also call on international organizations that call for the protection of journalists in conflict areas to intervene to stop these violations, which are always repeated.
