Erdogan announces the start of housing a million Syrians in Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye
ARK News: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced, on Monday, December 9, 2019, the start of housing a million Syrians in the cities of Gire Spi and Sari Kaniye in Syrian Kurdistan.
This came in a speech of him to the Ministers of Social Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul.
Erdogan said that support would be provided for the construction of new residential areas in the north of Syrian, adding, "We started working on housing a million people in the cities of Gire Spi (Tal Abyad) and Sari Kaniye (Ras Al-Ain)."
He pointed out that no single party would be able to bear the burdens of Syrians on Turkish soil and residents near the Turkish border, totaling 9 million.
The Turkish President stated that the European Union has given Syrian refugees only 3 billion euros, while what Turkey has spent on them exceeded 40 billion dollars.
He stressed that he had provided all leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with examples of projects that Turkey intends to establish in the north of Syrian with the aim of housing the Syrians.
And human rights organizations warn of efforts to bring about demographic change in Syrian Kurdistan, by displacing the indigenous population of the Kurds, and by settling the refugees and displaced Syrians from the Arabs and Turkmen in the Kurdish areas.
