New scholarship for refugees in Kurdistan Region (details)

ARK News: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in the partnership with the Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative, has announced the opening of applications for refugees who live in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to enjoy the Duffy Scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.

The DAFI Academic Scholarship Program aims to support junior male and female refugee students to higher education and is funded by the German government under the direction of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The scholarship through the Albert Einstein Initiative covers the registration fees, university hours and personal expenses in each semester, including living expenses, books, and transportation.

The grant is extended annually on the basis of academic excellence. Among the conditions and criteria for applicants in the Kurdistan region of Iraq to be a refugee resident in the region and registered with UNHCR, has completed secondary school with a pass rate of 75% or higher, in addition to some other conditions provided by the application site.

UNHCR says its higher education scholarship program plays a key role in empowering refugees worldwide. Since its inception in 1992, the program has evolved considerably, allowing more than 13,500 refugee students to study in universities and colleges in 50 countries of asylum.
