ARK News: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss recent developments in Idlib.

The Turkish presidency said in a statement on Friday, 23 August 2019, that "the attacks on Idlib harm the efforts of the solution and pose a real threat to Turkish national security.

Erdogan also assured his Russian counterpart that attacks by the Syrian regime in Idlib would cause a major humanitarian crisis.

For his part, the Kremlin stressed that the two presidents agreed to "intensify efforts to eliminate the terrorist threat emanating from the escalation zone in Idlib in Syria and to ensure the implementation of the Sochi Agreement," agreed in September 2018.

The contact comes in light of developments in the military arena in Idlib during the past days and the Syrian regime's control of strategic areas in the region.

Regime forces entered the city of Khan Sheikhoun and the cities of the northern countryside of Hama, Morik, Kafarzita, and Allatamina, after the withdrawal of armed factions from them.
