Thousands of Landmines Cleared in Jabal al-Turkman and Jabal al-Akrad, Latakia Countryside
ARK News.. The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that army engineering units have successfully removed more than 6,000 landmines over the past six months in the Jabal al-Turkman and Jabal al-Akrad areas of northern Latakia countryside.
According to Brigadier General Omar al-Hussein Abu Zaid, commander of one of the ministry’s engineering battalions, specialized units have been working around the clock for over half a year, focusing efforts on farmlands, residential zones, and valleys where various types of mines are scattered — including anti-personnel, anti-armor, and complex bounding mines.
He explained that the operation is part of a comprehensive field campaign aimed at clearing villages and agricultural lands of war remnants, ensuring the safe return of residents to their homes and farms.
