ARK News… The US Treasury Department announced the imposition of a package of sanctions on 11 individuals and entities for their role in supporting the Syrian regime and facilitating the drug trade it runs.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, the sanctions included Syrian businessman Taher al-Kayyali, director of the company “Neptunus LLC,” which he used to buy a ship to smuggle Captagon and hashish.

The sanctions included businessman Mahmoud Abu El-Elah Al-Daj and his two companies, “Free Bird” and “Al-Tair,” the “Maya Exchange Company,” the “al-Fadhel and al-Adham Exchange” companies, and the “STG Logistics” company.

Brian E. Nelson, Undersecretary of the Treasury for Middle East Affairs, said: “Assad continues to use a variety of schemes to evade the Caesar Act and continue his long-standing campaign of repression against his own citizens, including illicit drug trafficking and currency exchange exploitation.

He added, "The United States remains committed to holding accountable those who seek to support this illicit financial activity at the expense of the Syrian people."

It became clear that the inclusion of these names and entities yesterday, Tuesday, was in accordance with the Caesar Act for the Protection of Syrian Civilians of 2019, which includes secondary penalties for anyone proven to be knowingly providing significant support to the Assad regime.
