The US Embassy in Syria published a post on the social media platform “Facebook” in which it said: “Thirteen years after the start of the Syrian uprising, we applaud and support those who continue to strive to reach a political solution that meets the aspirations of Syrians, such as the peaceful demonstrators in Suwayda who maintained Their peaceful calls for change have lasted for more than 6 months.”

For his part, Ethan Goldrich, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, told the Syrian Network for Human Rights: “We cannot deny that Syria today is not what we hoped it would be 23 years ago. There have been painful setbacks and we have lost many Syrian colleagues and friends along the way.”

Goldrich added: "The Syrians are still raising their voices - they are still demanding change and are still looking for support and solidarity. The Syrian people have not surrendered and will not surrender either."
