The Voice of Detainees organization calls on the PYD administration to return two minors kidnapped by the Women’s Protection Units
ARK News... The "Voice of Detainees" organization concerned with detainee affairs called on the PYD administration to return the two girls (Mirav Adnan Khasho and Semil Zidan Ismail Khasho) who were kidnapped by the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) of this administration, calling on international and local organizations to intervene to return them.
The organization said in a statement on its Facebook page, “On 17/10/2023, forces affiliated with the Autonomous Administration in northeastern Syria kidnapped the two girls from the Rusafa housing in the city of Qamishlo: Mirav Adnan Khasho, born in 2008. Semil Zaidan Ismail Khasho, born in 2009.”
It added, "According to a statement from the family of the two minors, Mirav Adnan Khasho and Semil Zidan Ismail Khasho, they were kidnapped by the YPG forces of the Autonomous Administration in northeastern Syria, and they asked these forces to return the two girls to their families."
The organization indicated in its statement that these practices violate international laws concerned with preventing the recruitment of children, saying, “We at the Voice of Detainees organization call on the forces affiliated with the Autonomous Administration to return the two girls to their families because this violates international laws concerned with human rights and the recruitment of minors, as all international agreements stipulate preventing the recruitment of children.” In armed forces or groups.
“Voice of Detainees” called on international and local human rights organizations concerned with human rights and the recruitment of minors to intervene in order to return the two girls and all the minors to their families to practice their normal lives and complete their studies.
In this regard, Noraddin Khasho, Mirav and Semil’s uncle, said in a special video statement to ARK, “Mirav and Semil were kidnapped while leaving their grandmother’s house. It later became clear that the Women’s Protection Units were the kidnappers, after we received a call from them,” adding, “We checked All relevant institutions, but we did not receive any information about their fate, and today, after persistent attempts, her parents were able to meet with them, but unfortunately their actions indicate that they were forced to take narcotic medications.”
The Women's Protection Units are part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which signed an action plan with the United Nations in order to end and prevent the recruitment of children under the age of 18. The plan was signed by the Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Kobani, with the United Nations representative for children and armed conflict, Virginia Gamba 2019, but the inclusion of minors in battles and their recruitment is still continuing, amid neglect of the appeals of the children’s families and the calls of activists, politicians, and Kurdish parties for the need to put an end to this dangerous phenomenon.
