Masrour Barzani inaugurates Haji Omran Road Project
ARK News.. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday inaugurated the Haji Omran Road Project, describing it as a vital international route that deserved significant attention despite the area’s challenging geography.
Speaking to media outlets after the inauguration, Prime Minister Barzani said, “Although this place is difficult and remote, it is an international road, and therefore it was necessary to give special importance to this site.”
He added that the project was part of the independent administration plan for Soran, and extended his gratitude to the executing company, North Light, for completing the project with high standards. “God willing, more projects will follow,” he said.
The Haji Omran Road was implemented by North Light Company for 35 billion and 150 million Iraqi dinars, funded by the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism.
The new road stretches 2.5 kilometers with a width of 25 meters, compared to the old eight-meter-wide road that had long caused difficulties for residents, traders, and tourists.
Built to international standards, the project includes drainage and sewage systems, electricity and lighting networks, public facilities, parking areas, and traffic signage and paving. Environmental elements were also prioritized, with over 1,000 trees planted along the route, 170 double benches, and 170 waste bins installed.
To enhance road safety, 200 retaining walls were built on the right side and 190 on the left, protecting the route from landslides and stabilizing slopes.
As a key gateway between the Kurdistan Region and Iran, the Haji Omran Road represents a major infrastructure improvement, expected to facilitate trade and tourism while giving the area a modern, scenic appearance.
The project was completed with a 50-year guarantee from North Light Company.
