Putin Awards Prominent Kurdish Scholar the “Pushkin Medal”
ARK News.. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, awarded the prestigious “Pushkin Medal” to renowned Kurdish academic Professor Rashad Miran in recognition of his outstanding contributions to culture, the arts, and the humanities.
The official award ceremony took place at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, coinciding with Russia’s National Unity Day celebrations. Professor Miran became the first Kurdish recipient of the honor since its establishment in 1999, a distinction granted to individuals who have made exceptional efforts in preserving and promoting Russian culture and fostering international cultural dialogue.
In his address during the ceremony, Professor Miran highlighted the deep historical and cultural ties between Kurdistan and Russia, noting that as an ethnographer, he has always been an advocate for cultural cooperation and scholarly exchange between the two peoples.
At the conclusion of the event, Miran expressed his gratitude to President Putin, delivering his remarks in both Kurdish and Russian.
