Qamishlo protesters: Continuing the decision means more hunger

ARK News… On the eighth day of the protests, Syrian Kurdistan activists continue to demand that the PYD administration cancel the decision to raise the price of diesel amid popular discontent in the areas under the control of this administration.

Activists in the city of Qamishlo, Syrian Kurdistan, organized a protest in the city’s central market today, September 25, 2023, demanding the cancellation of the decision to raise the price of diesel. The protesters carried banners that read: “Wrong decisions = wrong results,” “Continuing the decision means more hunger,” and “The coming cold threatens our children.” "And many slogans expressing the protesters' rejection of this decision.

The protesters expressed their solidarity with the young man, Reaper Hussein, who was kidnapped by the Revolutionary Youth Movement, affiliated with the PYD administration, and was subjected to torture and forced to record a video clip in which he apologizes for his request to the people to close the shops and join the protest in the city of Kobani in rejection of the decision to raise the price of diesel, carrying a banner that read: “All solidarity with Reaper.” Kobani.

Yesterday, security personnel affiliated with the PYD administration forced citizens to close their shops in the Qamishlo market, starting from one in the afternoon until six in the evening, and they set up a tent at the municipal stadium in the city in support of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the PKK, in Imrali prison in Turkey.

Private sources told ARK that the PYD administration's closure of stores is part of its attempts to stop the protests demanding the cancellation of the decision to raise the price of diesel.

On the 16th of this month, the PYD administration raised the price of “subsidized diesel” from 525 Syrian pounds to 2,100, and “free” from 1,700 to 4,600 Syrian pounds.

The cities of "Qamishlo - Kobani - Girke Lage - Derik - Manbij" witnessed popular discontent, and the people organized popular protests and closed shops and markets, demanding a reversal of the decision to raise fuel prices.

The PYD administration’s areas of control contain the largest oil and energy fields in the countryside of Deir Ez-Zour and Hasakah, in addition to the largest natural gas fields, meaning about 90% of Syria’s energy sources.
