We, a group of civil organizations and personalities, have brought together the motives of truth and duty together to convey our message to you, expressing our deepest concern at the disastrous situation in Afrin region, since the beginning of the Turkish military campaign on 20/1/2018 (olive branch campaign), which resulted in the occupation of Turkey by full support armed militias on 18/3/2018, after the bombing and destruction of dozens of villages and residential areas in addition to the installations and public facilities and archaeological sites, causing massive exodus from it.

To begin after the occupation and control a systematic series of practices and crimes of murder, abuse, torture, vandalism, looting, robbery and armed robbery against property, livelihood and confiscation them, emptying villages of their inhabitants and expulsion and forcible displacement and prevent the return of displaced persons and the closure of ports in and to, bring in new settlers from various areas of conflict in Syria with the aim of changing the population structure and demographic change, in addition to committing a large number of crimes of arrest, abduction and enforced disappearance against civilians.

These crimes, which are explicitly applicable to the content of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, are considered to be breaches and violations that require accountability and punishment, in particular, those that are described as war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity.

Afrin suffered and its people suffered a lot of successive authorities, which ruled both from the Syrian regime or from the so-called (Democratic Self-Administration of PYD) - during the period of its rule or from the existing Turkish occupation.

As a result of the fact that Afrin is a Kurdish region (more than 95%), it is distinguished by its cultural and social identity, its historical specificity and its geopolitical location became the target of this occupation and not as Turkey claimed to fight terrorism in order to preserve its national security

In light of the above, we appeal to you and all of us to trust and hope to fulfill your moral and legal responsibilities and to take immediate and urgent action in accordance with the requirements of the situation and the need we see to be a fundamental basis in the imposition of international protection on Afrin under international auspices and in accordance with appropriate mechanisms and measures to put an end to the situation. In order to achieve a comprehensive and final solution to the Syrian crisis, which would preserve the dignity and rights of the people of Afrin region under an elected civilian administration after ending all military manifestations and the return of all displaced persons and refugees to their homes.

Please see with appreciation
