Japan and Britain agree to cooperate on sanctions against Russia

ARK News… Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his British counterpart Rishi Sunak have agreed to closely coordinate regarding sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine, according to the German news agency.

In a phone call Friday night, which was reported by the Japanese Broadcasting Corporation today (Saturday), Kishida welcomed the further deepening of relations between Japan and Britain in many areas, and Sunak also expressed his hope to build stronger relations.

The two leaders spoke of the need for the international community to send a clear message that Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons are unacceptable.

The two leaders reaffirmed cooperation in dealing with North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, as well as the issue of its abduction of Japanese citizens.

The two sides agreed to push forward work towards the signing of the Mutual Port Agreement, which specifies how to organize joint exercises between the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and British forces.

Japan has joined the European Union and the United States in imposing sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.
