ARK News… German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her support for holding negotiations with the Taliban with the aim of strengthening international efforts for Afghanistan

"Our goal must be to preserve as much as possible of the changes we have made in Afghanistan over the past 20 years," Merkel said in a government statement to the German parliament (Bundestag) on Wednesday”, adding that this should also be discussed with the Taliban, and she said, "However, there can and should not be unconditional agreements." Merkel also stated that the goal is also to protect people after the current evacuation.

In light of the Islamists' coming to power more than a week ago, Merkel said, "The Taliban is now a reality in Afghanistan," adding that this is a bitter issue, but it has to be dealt with.

At the same time, the chancellor emphasized that Germany and the international community have made improvements in the fate of many people - for example in the supply of electricity and drinking water or in reducing child mortality, adding that the original goal of no international terrorist attacks from Afghanistan has been achieved since then, noting that this was also one of the efforts of German soldiers during their mission there.
