ARK News: The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in Jordan, Ms. Marie Kawar participated as a keynote speaker at the session on the launch of the World Bank's report on "The Syrian Movement and their Mobility: Economic and social analysis "on the sidelines of the World Bank meetings currently held in Washington.

Kawar pointed out that with the passage of more than eight years on the Syrian situation, the number of Syrian refugees in Jordan reached 1.36 million Syrian refugees, 90% of whom are outside camps and 10% in refugee camps. The number of Syrian refugees registered with the UNHCR reached to 670,000.

Dr. Kawar also pointed out that despite the huge economic challenges resulting from the hosting of Syrian refugees in addition to the pressure on the infrastructure, and although Jordan is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, it continues to carry out its moral and humanitarian duties towards refugees, where Jordan is committed to its position based on international standards, which states that return must be a voluntary return provided security and safety conditions are in place in the country of origin: Syria.

The report of the World Bank shows that the issue of the movement and return of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq is closely linked to the basic motives of return: Restoring security, stability and restoring basic services in Syria including housing, education, water, and sanitation, as well as livelihoods and employment opportunities, as well as private property. The report also highlights the need to pay attention to gender, especially through asylum and return, and respect for women's rights and preserve her dignity.
