ARK News.. The United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria has warned of a "disaster" if preventive measures are not taken to counter the spread of "Corona-Covid 19" in the country.

In a statement published by the United Nations on its official website, the committee's president, Paulo Pinheiro, said that Syrian civilians face a deadly threat represented by an outbreak of Corona disease, especially in a country where urgent preventive measures are absent, pointing out that "to avoid the tragedy on the horizon, all parties must heed the call of the United Nations Secretary-General and the Special Envoy for a ceasefire, and any measure otherwise would condemn large numbers of civilians to death in a manner that could have been avoided."

The statement added that the internally displaced would be most vulnerable to this disease if it spread among them, indicating that the number of internally displaced people in Syria exceeded six million and 500 thousand, where more than a million civilians, mostly women and children, reside along the Syrian-Turkish border in northwestern Syria in the open, in crowded tents, or in makeshift camps.

The Commissioner Karen Abu Zaid called for "allowing humanitarian aid, including support and medical supplies, to reach these people according to need and not according to political considerations."
