ARK News.. The New York Times reported that Israel spent more than a year preparing a secret site inside Iraq for use in operations against Iran, while Iraqi officials later confirmed the existence of a second base in Iraq’s western desert.

According to The New York Times, a truck traveling at around 2 p.m. on March 3 through Iraq’s western desert initially appeared to be an ordinary sight for residents of a nearby Bedouin community. The vehicle was reportedly driven by a local shepherd heading toward the town of al-Nukhaib, but its return several hours later, burned and riddled with bullets, raised alarm. Three witnesses said a helicopter had pursued the vehicle and repeatedly opened fire until it came to a stop in the sand.

The American newspaper stated that the previously undisclosed attack occurred after Awad al-Shammari, 29, left on a trip to buy supplies and, according to his family, accidentally encountered a secret Israeli military site in the Iraqi desert, an incident that ultimately cost him his life.

The report added that al-Shammari contacted Iraqi military command during his trip to report what he had seen, including soldiers, helicopters, and tents near an airstrip, noting that Israel was operating a base there to support its military operations against Iran.

The New York Times further noted that the existence of an Israeli base in Iraq had previously been revealed by The Wall Street Journal, while Iraqi officials confirmed to the American newspaper the existence of a second undisclosed base, also located in the western desert.
