Hasaka City Council Increases Private Electricity Fees, Adding to Residents' Financial Burden

Jul 09 2026

ARK News.. In a move that adds to residents' mounting financial pressures amid the continued deterioration of essential services—particularly electricity and water—and the rising cost of living, the Hasaka City Council has increased subscription fees for the private electricity generator system (8-hour supply).

Under the new decision, the price per ampere for subscribers to the eight-hour electricity service has been raised from 15,000 Syrian pounds to 20,000 Syrian pounds per ampere.

The increase has sparked widespread dissatisfaction among residents, who say the decision fails to consider the severe economic hardships they are facing, especially given the lack of viable alternatives and the prolonged outages of the public electricity grid.

The price hike comes as residents of Hasaka continue to call for tangible improvements in basic public services and urgent solutions to the city's ongoing electricity and water crises, rather than imposing additional financial burdens. They stress that the worsening living conditions are placing an ever-growing strain on thousands of families across the city.
