ARK News.. Monday, May 11, 2026, marked the 41st anniversary of the assassination of Abdi Na’san, the first political figure in the city of Kobani, Kurdistan, Syria, to be assassinated by militants of the Kurdistan Workers Party.

A Brief Overview of the Life of Politician and Leader Abdi Na’san

Abdi Na’san was born in 1947 in a village near Kobani. He graduated from a Turkish university in the 1970s with a degree in pharmacy. In 1978, he joined the Kurdish Left Party in Syria, and in 1982, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the Kurdish Toilers Party in Syria.

He gained widespread recognition among the Kurdish people for his advocacy of the Kurdish cause and the legitimate rights of his people, while also being known for his respected moral character.

Na’san called for the unification of Kurdish political ranks in Syrian Kurdistan and sought to build relations with Arab opposition forces against the Baath Party.

He had hosted Abdullah Ocalan, leader of the PKK, at his home. According to the account, the PKK later seized his house and confiscated his property in Kobani.

The report further states that the Syrian regime planned the conspiracy, while PKK affiliates carried out the assassination on May 11, 1985. His killing is regarded as the first assassination of a political figure in the city of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan.
