Protests expand against the PYD administration’s decision on wheat pricing
ARK NEWS… Protests denouncing the PYD administration’s decision to price wheat expanded in the cities and towns of Syrian Kurdistan and other areas under the control of the PYD administration, as they expanded to include the cities of Derbasiya, Raqqa, and Deir Ez-Zour as well.
For the second day in a row, the people of the “peasants and growers” of the city of Amouda in Syrian Kurdistan went out today, Monday (5/27/2024), in a protest, demanding an adjustment to the price of wheat.
The protesters in the city of Amouda raised banners reading (Our livelihood is a red line - Başur 65 cents - Başur 73 cents - The regime 36 cents - Rojava what?).
Also, on Monday, 27/5/2024), the people of the “peasants and farmers” of the city of Derbasiya went out in mass protests, denouncing the PYD administration’s decision regarding the price of wheat for the year 2024.
Protesters in the city of Derbasiya raised banners reading: “No to starvation - you killed our children’s dreams - our labour and our children’s livelihoods are a red line - we watered our wheat with our blood, we will not sell it for free.”
On Monday, dozens of farmers participated in an angry demonstration in front of the “PYD Administration” building in the city of Raqqa to denounce the wheat price set by the “PYD Administration.”
On Sunday, the protesters in the city of Amouda raised banners reading “It is enough,” “We watered our land with our blood and we will not sell it for free,” “We demand that the price be adjusted to 50 cents,” and “Death and humiliation.”
A number of farmers in the town of al-Izba in the northern countryside of Deir Ez-Zour denounced the wheat price set by the “PYD Administration.”
Sources revealed that a portion of the trucks loaded with wheat returned from Chalabiya silos in the countryside of Kobani, Syrian Kurdistan, in protest against the wheat price set by the PYD administration.
On Sunday, on 26/5/2024), the PYD administration set the price of a kilogram of wheat at (31) cents, subject to the numerical grading system for the 2024 season.
For its part, the Kurdish National Council in Syria called on international bodies concerned with stability in Syria to put pressure on the PYD administration to reconsider this unfair pricing.
