Germany: Syrian Government Agrees in Principle to Repatriate Syrian Refugees Residing in Germany
ARK News.. Germany’s Interior Ministry announced that the Syrian transitional government has agreed in principle to accept the return of Syrian refugees currently residing in Germany. The announcement follows a recent visit to Syria by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and her Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner, during which they met with Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab on Sunday.
The German ministry clarified that the agreement does not yet include a concrete implementation plan or timeline for deportations. It emphasized that conditions in Syria remain “unstable and volatile,” despite the transitional government having regained control over large parts of the country.
Minister Faeser reaffirmed that Germany’s policy continues to prioritize voluntary return of refugees. However, she also stressed the need to accelerate the deportation of individuals deemed security threats or those who have committed criminal offenses.
