ARK News… Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Miqati, has called on members of his government to strictly enforce Lebanese laws on all Syrian refugees in Lebanon, pointing to "the proliferation of crimes committed by some Syrian refugees."

During a ministerial consultation meeting at the Government Saray Building in the capital Beirut, Miqati said, "I wanted this meeting to discuss the security situation in general, especially in the south, the issue of Syrian refugees, and the economic, social, security, and sovereignty implications for Lebanon."

He demanded that "Lebanon have a unified stance vis-à-vis the international community on the issue of Syrian refugees and its impact on the Lebanese reality in all its economic, social, security, and sovereignty aspects," according to the Lebanese National News Agency.

Miqati claimed that "with the proliferation of crimes committed by some Syrian refugees, it is imperative to address this situation firmly by security agencies and take urgent measures to prevent any criminal acts and to prevent any unacceptable behavior towards the Syrian brethren who are legally present and forcibly displaced."

Lebanon's Prime Minister also called on the Minister of Interior, Bassam Mawlawi, to "rigorously enforce Lebanese laws on all refugees and to deal firmly with cases that contravene these laws."

In response, the Lebanese Minister of Interior noted that "out of two million Syrian refugees in Lebanon, only 300,000 have residency, 800,000 are registered, and 1.2 million are unregistered."
