ARK News… On the 37th anniversary of the chemical bombing of the "Balisan, Sheikh Wasanan, and Khoshnawati Valley" area in the Kurdistan Region by the former Iraqi regime, President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani issued a statement today, Tuesday, April 16th, noting that the chemical bombing of this area was the beginning and precursor of the chemical bombing crime against the people and land of Kurdistan.

Nechirvan Barzani said, "The chemical bombing of this area, which has always been the cradle of revolution and the home of struggle against injustice and dictatorship, and has made immense sacrifices for the freedom of the Kurdistan people, was the beginning and precursor of the chemical bombing crime against the people and land of Kurdistan, which has become a dark page in the history of its perpetrators and at the same time has become a symbol of the oppression of the people of Kurdistan."

He added, "The chemical bombing and poisoning of the land, water, and skies of Balisan, Sheikh Wasanan, and the Khoshnawati Valley did not break the determination of its noble patriotic sons, as they rose again and continued the struggle against injustice and dictatorship. Therefore, they deserve the best services and more attention."

The President of the Kurdistan Region concluded his statement by saying, "Salute to all the sincere people who rushed to help the victims during the chemical attack, risking their lives to treat and heal the wounded. May the blessed martyrs' souls rest in peace, and may their memory be eternal."

It was 37 years ago that the former Iraqi regime bombed the areas of "Balisan, Sheikh Wasanan, and Khoshnawati Valley" with chemical weapons, resulting in 263 martyrs and more than 620 wounded. The regime later carried out toxic gas attacks on the city of Halabja and other cities and areas of the Kurdistan Region, resulting in the martyrdom and injury of thousands of civilians, mostly women, children, and the elderly.
