The 20th Anniversary of Farhad Sabri, One of the Foremost Martyrs of the March 12 Uprising
ARK News… Today, April 8, 2024, marks the 20th anniversary of the martyrdom of the young man Farhad Mohammad Sabri, who was martyred under torture in the prisons of the Syrian regime.
Farhad Mohammad Sabri was martyred in a cell in Hasakah after 9 days of beating and torture, following his arrest by the Syrian regime's intelligence in Qamishli due to his active participation in aiding the wounded and martyrs of the March 12, 2004 uprising in Syrian Kurdistan.
Overview of Martyr Farhad:
He was born in 1975 in the Qanat al-Sues neighborhood in Qamishli, descending from a Kurdish nationalist family with a history of struggle for the Kurdish cause. He attended elementary school in the neighborhood and completed his studies until obtaining a high school diploma in the Commerce Department.
He did not complete his studies due to the Syrian regime's law that deprived him and more than 500,000 Kurds from Syrian Kurdistan of Syrian identity, and they held "Foreigners of Hasakah Province" cards.
He joined the ranks of the Kurdistan Democratic Party - Syria at a young age, and like the rest of his family members, spared no effort in serving his cause and people. He was married and had a daughter named Nasreen, who was in her fifth month when he was martyred.
During the March 12, 2004 uprising, martyr Farhad played an active role in transporting the wounded and martyrs in his car while the regime was firing at the protesters, which led to his arrest a few days after the uprising.
The regime arrested him on March 29, 2004, promising his family to release him "after routine questioning," but it did not fulfill its promise. The martyr was imprisoned in Hasakah Prison, where the regime subjected him and his fellow detainees to the worst forms of torture and beating.
According to the family and eyewitnesses from Hasakah Prison, Farhad was martyred on April 6, 2004, but the regime informed the family on the early morning of April 8 and handed over his body, forcing them to bury him at that time, fearing another uprising following his martyrdom.
On the first anniversary of Farhad's martyrdom, the martyr Sheikh Mohammed Mashouq al-Khaznawi participated and delivered his historic speech, which later led to his assassination by the Syrian intelligence after a large popular turnout around him.
