Kurdish Hero Mustafa appointed US ambassador to Egypt

ARK News… The new ambassador of the United States of America to Egypt, Kurdish Hero Mustafa, was sworn in after the Senate approved her appointment.

The US Embassy in Cairo said in a post on the X platform: “Ambassador Hero Mustafa will assume her duties at the embassy during this prominent time in the bilateral US-Egyptian strategic relationship.”

Adding that it will enhance "joint efforts to achieve stability, security and prosperity in the region."

Who is Hero Mustafa?

An American diplomat of Kurdish origins, she was born in Erbil in the Kurdistan Region in 1973. She spent two years of her childhood in a refugee camp and arrived with her family who requested political asylum in the United States in 1976.

She studied national security and Middle East studies, and obtained a master's degree in international relations from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

In addition to her mother tongue, Kurdish, Hero speaks 9 languages, “English - Arabic - Russian - Hindi - Persian - Greek - Spanish - Portuguese - Turkish.”

She served as a senior advisor to Joe Biden when he was Barack Obama's running mate, and advised on issues related to the Middle East and South and Central Asia.

In June 2019, she was nominated for the position of US Ambassador to Bulgaria, and was sworn in after unanimous confirmation by the Senate.

In 2021, the Carnegie Foundation honored Hero Mustafa as one of the most important immigrants in the United States.
