The departure of former Pope Benedict XVI
ARK News... The German resigned Pope Benedict XVI, whose abdication surprised the entire world in 2013, on Saturday morning, December 31, 2022, died at the age of 95, as announced by the Vatican.
“I regret to announce that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away on Sunday at 9:34 in a convent in the Vatican,” Matteo Broni, media director of the Holy See, said in a statement. More information will be announced as soon as possible.”
The Pope resigned from his position on February 28, 2013, claiming that he was old, to be the first pope to resign in six centuries.
After his resignation, the Pope resided in Castel Gandolfo, before moving to one of the monasteries located in the Vatican Gardens, where he devoted himself to prayer and meditation, retaining the title “Your Holiness” and the white robe, and he also retained the honorary title “The Pope.”
