Kobani Without Water and Electricity for Two Months
ARK News.. The city of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan has been without electricity and water for two months due to ongoing clashes between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed armed factions near the Tishreen Dam and the outskirts of Kobani, exacerbating the suffering of local residents.
Human rights activist Mohammed Bozan told Bass News that "Kobani has been without water and electricity for two months due to intensified clashes in the countryside of Kobani and the Tishreen Dam area between the SDF and Turkish-backed factions, worsening the hardships faced by the local population."
Bozan noted that electricity has been completely cut off in Kobani and its surrounding areas, forcing a significant portion of residents to rely on solar panels for lighting.
He further explained that water supply has also been disrupted for the same reasons, leaving citizens dependent on private sellers. "A water tanker containing approximately 800 liters is being sold for 75,000 Syrian pounds," he said.
Some residents have resorted to digging shallow wells to secure drinking water, despite the health risks associated with unfiltered water, which can cause various diseases.
Bozan added that Kobani is already grappling with multiple crises, including widespread unemployment and the collapse of essential services due to over a decade of conflict in the region.
