ARK News… The Security Council, on Thursday, held an open session followed by closed consultation sessions to discuss the progress made in eliminating the Syrian regime’s chemical weapons program.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, on August 28, transmitted the 119th monthly report to the Director of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, submitted pursuant to Resolution 2118 (2013).

The Secretary-General stressed in his message to the Council that the use of chemical weapons anywhere by any party and under any circumstances is something that cannot be tolerated.

He stressed that impunity for their use is equally unacceptable, and that those who used chemical weapons must be identified and held accountable.

Referring to the Council’s division and its failure to implement Resolution 2118 and condemn the Syrian regime, the Secretary-General said in his message: “Unity in the Security Council is essential to achieving this urgent goal.”
