Interior of Kurdistan: Illegal forces in Sinjar prevent the return of the displaced to it
ARK News... The Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Government said that the region has borne additional economic burdens to receive hundreds of thousands of displaced persons and refugees who have been in its areas for many years.
It confirmed that it has continuously supported the voluntary return of these people to the areas from which they were forced out, especially the people of Sinjar.
The Kurdistan Ministry of Interior regretted the statement made by the Iraqi Minister of Migration and Displacement about the reasons why the displaced have not yet returned to their homes.
It said in a statement, on Tuesday, that the minister, instead of pointing out the main reasons for the non-return of the refugees and the obstacles to the Sinjar agreement, began to bargain and publish irresponsible and baseless statements about the refugees and use them for political goals.
The following is the text of the statement:
The Kurdistan Region has been hosting hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons from Iraq and refugees from neighboring countries for many years.
Despite the difficult circumstances and the financial crisis, the Kurdistan Regional Government was responsible for hosting dozens of camps designated, whether for the displaced or refugees, which burdened the regional government due to its incurring exorbitant economic costs.
It is clear to everyone that hundreds of thousands of refugees are afraid of violence, terrorism, discrimination, sectarian politics, and lack of security and peace. They have left their areas and moved to live in the cities of the Kurdistan Region, most of them residing in camps.
The Kurdistan Regional Government has tried to generously help the refugees and provide what is needed, and it has provided a successful experience in hosting refugees at the regional level.
The regional government has continuously supported the voluntary return of refugees to their homes, and therefore the implementation of the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government is the best road map for the return of refugees, the settlement of their situation, and the provision of a decent life for them.
However, there is a good understanding between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government, to find solutions to all issues and there is an expectation that the refugee problem will be resolved and their dignified return to their areas.
Unfortunately, the Iraqi Minister of Migration and Displacement, in a television interview, instead of pointing out the main reasons for the non-return of the refugees and the obstacles to the Sinjar Agreement, began to bargain and publish irresponsible and baseless statements about the refugees and their use for political goals.
Such opinions and statements hide the refugees' desires. It is a cover-up of the truth and does not serve the conditions of the refugees and the normalization of their lives.
The main reason for the non-return of refugees is the presence of illegal forces in Sinjar and the failure to implement the agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government regarding the normalization of conditions there.
Unfortunately, until now, in the name of reconstruction, material assistance is being provided to the illegal forces and militias there.
If the Minister of Immigration and Refugees and his colleagues are honest and concerned for the lives of the refugees, then let them come and work for the normalization of the situation in Sinjar, then the reconstruction will be easier and it will serve the refugees and their lives will return to normal.
