18 years since the death of the artist, Garabit Khajo
ARK News... Monday, January 16, 2023, was the 18th anniversary of the death of the artist, Garabit Khajo, at the age of 105.
A glimpse of his life:
He was born in 1900 to an Armenian family in the village of Bişêrî in Kurdistan, Turkey.
In 1915, during the Armenian massacres, he and his brothers and sisters took refuge in a Kurdish family, working for them in herding and service.
In 1929 he left his place of residence in the city of Qamishlo in Syrian Kurdistan.
He volunteered in the French army in 1931 and remained in service until 1946.
At the end of 1946, he immigrated with his family to Armenia and until that point, he did not know how to speak Armenian.
From 1955 he worked on Radio Yerevan in the Kurdish section and recorded many songs there.

Artist Garabit Khajo died on January 16, 2005, at the age of one hundred and five years.
