Ministry: PKK Attacks Peshmerga Northeast of Erbil

On Monday evening, Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) gunmen attacked the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces in the northeast of capital Erbil, the Peshmerga Ministry has revealed.

Jamal Eminki, Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga Ministry, explained in a statement that the incident took place in an area between Khalifa and Bekhma, in Soran district, northeast of Erbil.

The PKK gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint of the Peshmerga forces and that the Peshmerga fighters responded to the attack with initial reports of possible casualties, he added.

Eminki further warned that the Peshmerga forces would respond to any attacks by the PKK gunmen.

This is not the first time that the PKK carries out such attacks on the Peshmerga forces in different areas of the Kurdistan Region, particularly in Erbil and Duhok provinces, lately.

There have been casualties as a result of previous attacks on the Peshmerga fighters by the PKK.
